At this time 75 years ago ( 06.30 GMT) the people of Hiroshima would have been going about their daily business, not suspecting that in less than two hours, and without warning, they would be the victims of the first atomic bomb. This was an atrocity perpetrated against a civilian population, not against armed troops. It encapsulates what has become the accepted norm of modern warfare in which the major targets – and hence the the majority of casualties – are civilians.
This is why Linda Hale and I will be demonstrating today in Knighton for an end to nuclear weapons. It’s why we support Pity of War. Nuclear weapons are an abomination and have no place in a peaceful future world.
